Poem (The Lure of Hope)

The lure of hope

The lure of hope
pushes us beyond
the frustration of broken
promises

It widens our gaze
past the torrid downpour
of what divides
and turns fists
into handshakes

The lure of hope
clothes the nakedness
of our anger
with the robe
of a brotherhood
that unites on subliminal
levels
which graduate to acts
of service
to higher realms
of human interaction

The lure of hope
recognizes
that change is active
moving
moving contrary to
diatribes based on grievances
but instead marshaling
the strength
to push towards
what is right
for every street
barrio
and neighborhood

The lure of hope
is the awaiting
of blooming flowers
sometimes locked within
concrete
patiently seeking
the moisture
of conscientious thought
to hasten its growth
